From the Dogfish website: "This beer is based on chemical analysis of pottery fragments found in Honduras which revealed the earliest known alcoholic chocolate drink used by early civilizations to toast special occasions. The discovery of this beverage pushed back the earliest use of cocoa for human consumption more than 500 years to 1200 BC. As per the analysis, Dogfish Heads Theobroma (translated into 'food of the gods') is brewed with Aztec cocoa powder and cocoa nibs, honey, chilies, and annatto (fragrant tree seeds)"
I can't decide if they are serious, or if this is just a really entertaining line of BS. Either way this is an amazingly complex chocolate beer, the layers of ingredients just sneak up on you while drinking this one.
I shared this enormous bottle at an impromptu beer tasting at the house one night and we all agreed that it was one of the most unique tastes, while still being very drinkable.
This one will be the first in the "Cool Bottle" series, ie: Beer my wife picked up because the bottle looked cool!
